SDAP Episode 4 - When did you learn what sex was?

Ami and Abby talk about early Seventh-day Adventist attitudes towards sex, more modern attitudes, and their own experiences with sex education growing up in the church. They ask their friends: When did you learn what sex was?

  1. I'm fifteen minutes into this episode. I've listened in order since Ep.1. I love your work, and am promoting it on the ex-sda and atheist SDA sites on FB I frequent. This episode made me laugh out loud when one of you brought up oral sex to a parent, and was told, "we don't behave like animals," which made an imaginary series of animals performing oral sex on each other parade through my LOL'ing brain. Golden.

Keep up on the excellent work. It serves a very isolated and potentially lonely community, former Adventists who now are atheists.

    1. What ex-sda sites on facebook have you found? I'm not "out" so I'm kind of afraid to join them for fear friends and family will see it and start asking questions. If you happen to see this post, can you direct me to some support groups? Thanks!

  2. My favorite quotation among many gems . . .

"Ironically, Ellen White has very little to say about homosexuality. She was too busy telling straight people to stop having sex."

  4. Quite honestly sexual education doesn't exists in the adventist community at all... I'm an 18 year old girl, who is currently going through the whole leaving church process, and everything I know about sex it's because I've done my own research because even though my parents were somewhat open about the subject I was always too afraid to ask.

P.S. I throughly enjoy your podcasts and I want to thank you because these have helped me a lot as I go through my journey.

    1. That was mostly our experience too. Unfortunately doing your own research can be...alarming. Both thank and curse the Flying Spaghetti Monster for the internet! :)

I'm glad the podcast has been helpful. Leaving is painful, but you're not alone, and it definitely gets better. Good luck!

    3. I meant that doing your own research online can be alarming. I've seen a few things I can't unsee. :)
