In meals with other catholics we usually adlib why we were thankful and round it off with an our father.
In practice the SDA mealtime prayers are about the same. It's not a memorized thing like saying the "our father," but the prayer does become a habit with a sort of internal script.
I'm curious as to how you handle prayer in restaurants though. It doesn't happen often as I've kinda cut most SDA friends out of my life for my own sanity, but my one friend I do hang out with occasionally goes out to eat with me.To her credit, she always asks if I mind if she prays out loud before we eat, and usually I don't, like, it doesn't embarrass me or whatever but like... I dunno, does that ever happen to you?I never know whether I should bow my head and close my eyes or just sit there in respectful silence... I was just curious what others think about that.
I don't bow my head, etc., but I've been quietly out of the nonbeliever closet long enough that it's been years since anyone asked me to pray in public.
